Friday Musings

I am wiped out from this week. Many document emergencies tended to. Shwoo. The bit I was kvetching about has been resolved. Whoever they enlisted for help didn’t change my draft much. They reordered some points and flowered up the intro a bit ─ all good changes. When the speech was put back in my plate yesterday, I honed right in on the biggest structural flaw. Worked with my boss and bigger honcho to correct. And now we’re in relatively good shape, I think. And I am no longer harboring hard feelings. I can’t expect these dudes to be caring or sensitive. They’re just not. As long as I adjust my expectations, all is O.K.

Trying very hard to find some new music to get excited about, and failing. I illegally downloaded Feist and am nonplussed about all the hype. Sounds like another Cat Power, mournful, folksy indie songstress type. Big whoop. So much of the indie stuff that gets covered sounds the same. It’s been a while since I’ve heard anything new that sounds different and is good ─ not simply experimental, different for the sake of being different. Makes me start loving my old faves again. Like Tribe. I have re-ignited my love movement for A Tribe Called Quest. Wondering when the next cycle of good music will hit us. Remember the opening lines of The Low End Theory, the song “Excursions”:

Back in the days when I was a teenager
Before I had status and before I had a pager
You could find the abstract listening to hip hop
My pops used to say, it reminded him of be-bop
I said, well daddy don’t you know that things go in cycles
The way that bobby brown is just ampin like michael
It’s all expected, things are for the lookin’

I believe we’ll experience good music again. But the waiting’s a bitch.
