“Love is everything it’s cracked up to be. It really is worth fighting for, being brave for, risking everything for. And the trouble is, if you don’t risk everything, you risk even more.”

Sorry, I think that’s crap. We’re talking about romantic love here, right? That sounds more like a recipe for going to jail.
i think ms. jong is talking about intimacy.
friendship, the deep kind … with or without sex/domestic partnership.
valuable relationships involve risk … allowing yourself to be vulnerable, revealing all your parts — even the ugly ones. being honest with yourself and then letting someone else see it. it’s not easy.
Erica Jong also said this:
“If Obama loses it will spark the second American Civil War. Blood will run in the streets, believe me. And it’s not a coincidence that President Bush recalled soldiers from Iraq for Dick Cheney to lead against American citizens in the streets.”
I can’t and won’t take her seriously.
oh john, you are so much like my family.
i don’t know or care about erica jong. i quoted words i liked … not caring who said them … because they resonated with me.
but alas, it’s a free country and your spirited responses are welcome and appreciated!
So, Fear of Flying wasn’t really about flying?
I was just being an old crank, col. I get into that mood sometimes and nothing makes me happy. Thanks for putting up with me (that goes for you too, SD).
i love you in crankster mode too. you really are like family (and moi), and i love that you show your true colors. keep crankin’!
